The Hong Kong Chess Federation always enters a Hong Kong team in the Chess Olympiad, which take place every second year.  It also tries to enter teams in the following competitions, as they take place:
         Asian Team Championships;
         Asian Cities Tournament;
         Inter-city matches (occasional).

The Federation Committee selects teams for the following events:
       Olympiad;
       Asian Team;
       Asian Cities;
       World Championship Zonal;
       Other events specified by the Federation
        Committee from time to time.

The President and the Vice-President of the Federation select the teams for all other events.

To be eligible for selection for the main events listed above, a member:

(a) must have been a member of the Federation or of a chess club in the Federation:

(i) for the previous 12 months; or
(ii) for a total of 24 months at any time;   and

(b) must have completed one of the following competitions:
(i) the Hong Kong Championship; or
(ii) the Open Championship.

There are no special eligibility criteria for selection for other events.
